The Morality of COVID Vaccines: A talk by Professor Janet E. Smith
On Friday, Janaury 22, 2021, Professor Smith gave this presentation on the morality of taking the COVID 19 vaccines that were developed or tested using cells lines from aborted fetuses. She explains the principle of remote material cooperation with evil (and argues it is not applicable in this case). She addresses concerns about scandal and complicity, and she discusses the principle of appropriation (benefiting from ill-gotten gains). She also helpfully demonstrates how bioethicists use analogies such as the veneration of relics, organ transplants, and even cannibalism, to think through this complicated issue.
